Tub-to-Shower Conversion in San Diego, CA
Converting an old tub to a walk-in shower is one of the most popular bathroom upgrades. We remove the tub, relocate or resize the drain and install a new shower valve at the right height. On slab foundations, the drain may need to be moved, which involves cutting concrete. The result is a safer, more usable shower.
Shower Pan Installation in San Diego
A correctly installed shower pan is fundamental for preventing leaks and protecting your bathroom subfloor. FKM Plumbing expertly installs various shower pan types, including pre-fabricated units and custom-tiled pans with proper waterproofing membranes. We make sure the pan is level and correctly sloped toward the drain, a vital step that prevents expensive water damage in the long run. We use high-quality sealants for lasting protection.
Accessible and ADA Shower Installation in San Diego, CA
Accessible showers need low or no thresholds, handheld showers on slide bars and properly placed controls. We install grab bar blocking while walls are open and set valves within easy reach. These features help seniors and people with mobility needs bathe more safely. We follow ADA guidelines when requested.

Walk-in showers offer accessibility and a modern look, and FKM Plumbing is experienced with their installation. Municipal water across much of Southern California is hard, leaving chalky scale on faucets, showerheads, and inside water heater tanks. Earthquakes are a constant consideration in Southern California, and seismic straps and flexible connectors help keep water and gas lines secure during shaking. Proper shower installation in San Diego, CA guards against leaks that can lead to foundation and structural issues.

Frequently Asked Questions About Shower Installation in San Diego
The cost of shower installation in San Diego varies widely, typically ranging from $1,500 to $6,000 for standard units, and $5,000 to $15,000 or more for custom or luxury systems. Factors like shower type, materials, plumbing changes, and labor complexity affect the final price. We provide upfront, detailed quotes after assessing your specific project.
We install Moen, Delta, Kohler, Grohe, Hansgrohe and Brizo valves. We recommend pressure-balance or thermostatic valves for scald protection.
DIY shower installation is generally not recommended due to the complexity of plumbing connections, waterproofing, and local building codes. Improper installation can lead to costly leaks, water damage, mold growth, and unsafe conditions. Hiring a professional like FKM Plumbing means the job is done correctly, safely, and to code, saving you potential headaches and expenses down the line.
Hiring a professional for shower installation ensures proper plumbing connections, correct waterproofing, and compliance with local codes. DIY mistakes can lead to expensive leaks, mold growth, and water damage, which are hard to repair. Professionals have the specialized tools and expertise to deliver a long-lasting, problem-free shower.
Pressure-balance valves keep the hot and cold ratio steady when pressure changes. Thermostatic valves control the actual temperature and allow separate volume control, which suits multi-head showers.
Valves and fixtures carry manufacturer warranties, many lifetime for the original owner. We also stand behind our workmanship.
Yes, FKM Plumbing frequently performs tub-to-shower conversions in San Diego homes. This involves removing the existing bathtub and installing a new shower base, walls, and fixtures. It is a common option for improving accessibility and modernizing bathrooms without a full remodel. We make sure all new plumbing connections are correctly installed and sealed.
Signs your old shower needs replacement include ongoing leaks that damage walls or floors, extensive mold or mildew that returns despite cleaning, severe cracks in the shower pan or enclosure, or outdated plumbing that constantly fails. If repairs are becoming frequent and costly, replacement is often the more economical long-term solution. Hot inland summers push water heaters and pool plumbing hard, while coastal salt air can corrode exposed metal fittings.
